Thoughts on 2026 September Apple Event

Overall the event was mediocre. This event was mostly incremental updates. It was probably intentional so the iPhone Duo could steal the show.

iPhone 18 Pro

The advertised battery life is incredible.

They really played towards the video watch time. I wonder how they determine the numbers they said. I’m assuming it’s with a downloaded video and no WiFi, Bluetooth, or Cellular data turn in.

The numbers stated seemed too high to be anything else.

The extra neural engine is a nice added feature that will be handy over time.

They touched on running local models on-device but quickly moved on. This could be the show-stealing feature depending on which local models can be run.

Overall everything else was an incremental update.

Apple Watch Series 12

Health sensing is a cool feature but not an upgrade for me.

However bringing the ceramic case back is a highlight.

Not sure if that’s enough to make me leave behind my Ultra 2

Apple AirPods

Another incremental upgrade.

A great addition for those needing new AirPods and wanting to stay on budget but for Pro users there’s no reason to buy.

iPhone Duo

The obvious star of the show.

This type of device has been on my want list since Microsoft debuted the Courier back in the early 2000s.

This will replace my iPad and Kindle. It could possibly replace most things I do on my MacBook Pro. It will depend on monitor support. It seems like the interface is an iPad and iPhone combined.
Coding is the one thing that won’t make the move yet.

What Stood Out

The screen image transition from folded to unfolded is amazing. So much detail put into that one piece.

The camera functions for families and friends. I can already see how the camera functions will help my wife take pictures of our kids easier.

The FaceTime features will be greatly used with the way my kids like to run while we are on FaceTimes with family.

They seemingly thought of every detail of how you could use the phone in folded configurations.

You can tell all the rumors of them working on a foldable phone through the years was true. Not because they put the phone out but through the detail in ever feature. They have been using this phone to understand how a normal person would use it.
